Stauer.Com Sterling Silver Rope Chain Necklace Critical Product Review of Jewelry Quality
Stauer seems to be a big scam. The jewelry at stauer.com is of cheap quality and is grossly overpriced. Don't fall for the Platinum Club or the free gift certificates they offer because you are still getting a bad deal.
The item I bought was an 18 inch Sterling Silver rope chain for 49.00 plus shipping. This silver rope chain looks much nicer in the photo than it does in person, unfortunately. I was just looking for a basic silver rope chain to hang a pendant from so I ordered this. When I received the necklace it was packaged very nicely and well presented. I was so disappointed when I opened up the little gray box. You could barely see the necklace because it was so thin and it is also a poor excuse for a rope chain. The color of the necklace was not as bright and pretty as it looks in the photo. The silver is more of a dull, dingy gray color not the pretty light, shiny silver that you will be expecting. It is not flattering against the skin at all.
It seems to be sturdy for the most part but I really don't wear it that much. The 18 inch length is kind of on the short side. I would have preferred it to be 2-4 inches longer. Stauer's shipping charges are insane I think I paid about $15.00 for them to ship something that weighed 2 ounces in a bubble mailer. I can't imagine anyone paying $49.00 plus shipping for this chain which is why, I assume, Stauer offers the gift certificates. Still, with a gift certificate, this is not a good deal. I saw nicer looking sterling silver chains selling on Amazon for under $10.00 that ship for free with their super saver shipping promo. I wish I found those first and in the future I will be a more savvy shopper.
