'Deadliest Catch' Star Justin Tennison Found Dead in Hotel Room
"Deadliest Catch" star Justin Tennison was found dead Tuesday in his Alaska hotel room, the Anchorage Daily News reports. Read on to learn more about the second tragic death for the hit show.
Homer, Alaska, law enforcement officials found Tennison -- a F/V Time Bandit -- unresponsive Tuesday afternoon at the Best Western Bidarka Inn. Drugs and alcohol were also found in the room, according to the Anchorage Daily News.
Police said that they found alcohol and a small amount of marijuana in the hotel room -- and the room was registered to Tennison.
"There was information that there had been a party at an adjacent room," Lt. Randy Rosencrans told the newspaper.
The cause of death is unknown, but foul play is not suspected. An autopsy is scheduled for this afternoon.
The Discovery Channel confirmed Tennison's death in a statement.
"Discovery Channel is saddened by the passing of Time Bandit crew member Justin Tennison," a rep for Original Productions said in a statement. "We send our sympathies to his entire family and fellow crew members during this most difficult time."
This isn't the first time struck the hit Discovery Channel show. Capt. Phil Harris passed away from a stroke in 2020. The show later paid tribute to the beloved Captain on a tribute episode of "Deadliest Catch."
"Deadliest Catch" captain Andy Hillstrand described his feelings on Tennison's death on his Facebook fan page.
"It is with great sadness that the Time Bandit family announces the death of crew member, Justin Tennison. Justin died peacefully in his sleep the night of February 21, 2020," Hillstrand wrote.
"Justin fished commercially for many years, living in Alaska for 28 years. He worked on the Time Bandit, alongside his second cousin, Eddie Uwekoolani, Jr., serving as Engineer during the tendering seasons, and joined the Time Bandit crew as a deckhand fishing the Red King 2020 and Opilio 2020 seasons."
"Justin was tough as a bull and was an all-around good hand. The Captains and Crew appreciated his hard work and many contributions this past year. We will miss him terribly and wish his family all the best during this most difficult time," Hillstrand wrote.
Tennison is survived by his two children, sister and father, according to Hillstrand.
