There are many great table tennis players in the United States and all around the world. Many times we get to see these players at domestic and international tournaments. However, more often than not we are hesitant to approach them with our questions. Our own coaches give us advice that is tailored specifically to each of our own playing styles and abilities but, what might a great table tennis player tell us about the sport in general? Furthermore, what can some of these players tell us that we might not learn otherwise? Have you ever wondered what a top table tennis player might say to you about the sport of table tennis? Although some of the things we learn from these great players might not instantly apply to our games we find that during our improvement and development we sometimes remember things from the most unlikely sources. It is these small pieces of information that can help us find new ways to solve technical and positional problems, among other things. The following are some things that a top table tennis player might tell you, should you find yourself engaged in a table tennis discourse with one of these great champions!
Now that we have an idea of what some of the top players might tell us, good luck with all of your training. Remember to practice service and service receives. Make sure your third and fifth balls are of good quality. The better quality you're third and fifth ball are the better you will be able to keep a positive position and at the same time push your opponent into a negative position. That being said, you should also remember that a table tennis match should be seen more as cooperation rather than a competition. Even though you are constantly trying to push your opponent into making bad choices; you should know that in order to reach your goal of playing to the best of your ability you will need your opponent. You will sometimes need to use their spin and their own speed to achieve the best possible outcomes. Many times players try to force their entire game on their opponents. This is a great way to increase errors for yourself and lose your position quickly. In a match there always needs to be some cooperation with your opponent. It is not you who makes yourself great, it is the opponent that makes you great. The sport of table tennis is a giant puzzle that you can only solve with your opponents help.
