The Boys from 'South Park' Save the World As Only They Can
In "South Park" Season 15 Episode 2 "Funnybot," the boys deal with tacky awards shows, humorless Germans, and a killer robot. Oddly enough, there is no gross out humor in this episode, unless you consider the end of the world gross.
Spoilers follow.
Jimmy, the lad with the stutter and the mobility problems, headlines the First Annual South Park Comedy Awards, brought to you by the special education department and attendance is mandatory, thank you very much.
Two problems are caused by the awards. Tyler Perry shows up to accept his award and will not leave. The Germans are annoyed at their award and show up as well. Best line: "You remember what happened to the last people the Germans were p---ed off at!"
The Germans, besides herding the entire school into the gym, introduce the latest marvel of German engineering, Funnybot, which goes on to cause every comedian in the world to lose their jobs, which causes every comedian in the world, led by Jay Leno and Adam Sandler, to show up in South Park at herd everyone into the gym at gun point.
Of course, "Funnybot" becomes a parody of every killer robot run amok story that one has ever seen on TV and in the movies. Funnybot is part Dalek from "Dr. Who" (at one point it yells, "Exterminate!"), part torture droid from "Star Wars" and part Nomad from "Star Trek."
Funnybot gets it into his head that the ultimate punchline to the ultimate joke will be the death of all life on Earth; Funnybot proposes to do a Skynet. Fortunately, the boys remember the episode in "Star Trek" in which Harry Mudd has a planet full of androids who are taken care of by being placed into a logic loop. This is accomplished by giving Funnybot a comedy award, which causes him to take comedy seriously, which---well, it is not pretty.
President Barack Obama shows up in a cameo twice in the episode, once to announce what he intends to do in the last minutes of all life on Earth, once to announce "justice has been done" while the greatest threat to humankind is sealed up in an inescapable container and then buried in concrete death within the earth. And so once again the boys from South Park, as only they can, save the world.
