Several Easy Steps to Improve Your Tennis Game!
Helping you improve your tennis game!
Analyzing your opponent- If you watch your opponent, perhaps play other matches or during your warm up, it's very important to look for flaws. All tennis players have that one shot they don't like as much as the others. Whether it is a simple backhand, a forehand, or a volley of either side, hit them various shots with different spins to see how they handle it. Once in match play, consistently hit to these locations, remember, any unforced error by them is a point for you.
Hitting with more pace- Even though some players enjoy hitting with pace, the harder you can hit, the higher number of winners you'll have at the end of the day. It's understandable that most beginning players play to, "just get the ball over the net," but when playing very quick and nimble people this becomes a problem, especially for those of us who aren't in very good shape. They simply run your easy shots down and peck them back over the net until you either mess up, or just get too tired to play. There's several ways to increase your pace on a shot: Move your body weight through the ball, rotate your shoulders and use the energy to penetrate through the ball, or flattening the ball out with less spin. Use these in match play to move your pesky opponent around and we'll see how quick they are!
Use easy matches as practice time- We all play players who are just not up to par. While playing these people, hit shots you normally wouldn't hit. Not only does it give you practice time in area's you're uncomfortable with, but it allows your opponent to score some points making it enjoyable for them as well. If you're lacking at the net, come to the net. If you're backhand needs work, run around your forehand and hit backhands.
Tennis is a very mentally challenging game as well as physically. It's something we can all do for a very long time and is played by a very broad range of players. Follow the previous steps, and your tennis game will finally begin to come together!
