Foot pain can have many causes, including bone fracture and even cancer.
Foot pain can have many causes, including bone fracture and even cancer. The Institute for Preventive Foot Health has now come up with a most simple three-step test that you can take online to get an idea of what could be causing your problem with pain.
Though I myself do not have any pain in my feet, I decided to try this simple test. It's very user friendly and will give you ideas of what could be wrong with your feet.
The test involves answering three simple questions. This tool cannot diagnose your problem, but it can point you in the right direction. Thus, it is not to be used as a replacement for a visit to a physician.
How does the test work? You view a diagram of a foot from three different angles. Next, you choose the area with your mouse where the discomfort is located.
Step 2 is you select on a pain scale your level of discomfort (from 1 to 10).
Step 3 takes your answers from the first two steps and produces a list of the possible conditions that can be causing your problem. In addition, possible causes are given, plus tips on prevention and what the typical treatments are.
"We are committed to making it as easy as possible for people to proactively take care of their feet," says IPFH's executive director Robert P. (Bob) Thompson, a certified podiatrist.
Early, appropriate treatment can save days, weeks or months of discomfort and may prevent small problems from worsening," continues Thompson. "This tool can help make people more aware of the need to take action on any foot problem that causes pain."

Remember, the IPFH's online foot pain test is not a substitute for a medical consultation, but rather, it's a tool to give you guidance and an idea of what the problem might be.
