How to Wash Delicate Laundry Items
How to wash items that need special care, this article will give instructions on washing several different wash items.
CURTAIN AND DRAPERIES: Many curtains are not machine washable, some are made of silk or velvet or they have special trim. These should be hand-washed . If they are not of this material you should always wash them on the gentle cycle. The type of soil they collect is usually easy to get out in the gentle washing. They are usually exposed to sunlight which causes deterioration of the fabric. Laundering can tear or fray them when they have been weakened by light. Choose lukewarm or cool water to avoid shrinkage with fibers that may shrink. Tumble dry on low if shrinkage is a problem, or line-dry if you wish to avoid any heat or abrasion.
WOOL GLOVES AND MITTENS: Make sure to remove any lint or dirt from the insides of the gloves. Machine-wash on gentle or hand-wash. After they are washed roll them in a towel to remove excess water, then dry flat. Brush with a fabric brush when the gloves are dry to restore fluffiness. Do not turn them inside out or shape them when they are wet.
WOOL BLANKETS: Wash these on gentle cycle. Use a neutral, mild detergent suitable for wool. Use cool water. If the blanket is heavily soiled use lukewarm water and presoak in a mild detergent. Wash the blanket alone.
If you have to dry your blanket indoors, use the lowest tumble dry setting. But it is recommended to let it dry outside in the fresh air. You can dry the blanket by laying it flat on a rack or laying it outside on an old clean sheet.

Rinse them in cold water. To dry, just lay them flat. Work them with your hands two or three times as they dry to prevent their drying stiff. If they do dry stiff, wet them a little before working them to soften them up. When they are completely dry, rub them with a little leather conditioner.
PLASTIC SHOWER CURTAINS: Do not wash these in the washing machine. They can crack. Scrub it by hand with a medium-soft brush or cloth wetted with hot detergent and water . Add about 3/4 cup of bleach to a gallon of water. This will help with any mildew. Rinse thoroughly with cold water. You can also clean shower curtains by spraying them with any nonabrasive bathroom cleaner, letting the cleaner stand, and then wiping and rinsing.
